Leah’s Fine Hair Formula

The Products + Habits I Swear By for Fine, Fuller-Looking Hair

Fine hair has its own set of rules. The right products can give you incredible softness, movement and volume—but anything too heavy can leave your hair feeling flat almost immediately.

As a hairstylist who works with fine hair, my approach is simple: keep the foundation lightweight, add volume where it matters and avoid overloading the hair with products it doesn't need.

Here’s the formula I recommend for keeping fine hair looking healthy, full and effortlessly styled.

Start with UNITE BOOSTA Volumizing Shampoo + Conditioner

Volume starts in the shower. The BOOSTA Volumizing Shampoo helps cleanse without leaving fine hair feeling heavy, while the conditioner adds softness and manageability.

My tip: Keep conditioner focused primarily through the mid-lengths and ends. If your roots tend to fall flat or get oily quickly, you usually don't need conditioner directly at the scalp.

Add UNITE BOOSTA Volumizing Spray

Before blow-drying, apply BOOSTA Volumizing Spray through the roots and areas where you want extra lift. This is one of my favorite ways to create volume without making fine hair feel stiff or overloaded with product.

For the best results, lift the hair away from the scalp while blow-drying instead of directing everything straight down.

Build Body with UNITE BOOSTA Thickening Cream

Fine hair can benefit from a little extra substance through the lengths. Work a small amount of BOOSTA Thickening Cream through damp hair before styling to help create the appearance of fuller, more substantial strands.

The key word here is small. With fine hair, you can always add more—but starting with too much product can quickly work against your volume.

Finish with UNITE BLONDA Oil

Fine hair still needs moisture and shine—you just have to be careful not to weigh it down. I love using a small amount of UNITE BLONDA Oil through the mid-lengths and ends to smooth, soften and add a polished finish.

My tip: Start with one small drop, warm it between your palms and lightly skim it over the ends of your hair. Avoid applying oil directly at the roots, where fine hair tends to lose volume fastest.

For blondes, it's an especially nice finishing touch for keeping lightened hair looking glossy, soft and healthy rather than dry or dull.

A Few More Fine Hair Rules I Swear By

Use lightweight products and introduce richer oils and masks sparingly. Apply dry shampoo before your hair gets oily to help extend your style and maintain volume. When blow-drying, focus on root lift and movement rather than trying to make every strand perfectly smooth.

And don't underestimate your haircut. The right shape can make fine hair appear significantly fuller, while too many layers can sometimes remove the density you're trying to create.

Most importantly, fine hair doesn't necessarily need more products—it needs the right products used in the right places.

That's the Fine Hair Formula: lightweight care, intentional volume and healthy hair that still moves.
