Curls That Last for Days
Salon-worthy curls without the daily restyle.
There’s nothing better than walking out of the salon with soft, bouncy curls—except being able to recreate them at home and have them still look good days later.
The secret to curls that last isn’t piling on hairspray at the end. It starts with the right prep, the right tools and a curling technique that gives your hair time to actually set.
Here’s my go-to routine for creating touchable, voluminous curls with staying power.
Start with heat protection + hold
Before picking up your curling iron, lightly mist each section with Kenra Thermal Styling Spray. This gives your hair thermal protection while adding the grip and memory needed to help your curl hold its shape.
The key is a light, even application—you want your hair protected and prepped without weighing it down.
Work in clean sections
Use sectioning clips to divide your hair into manageable sections, starting at the bottom and working your way toward the top.
Smaller, intentional sections allow the heat to distribute more evenly and help create a more consistent curl pattern. If your hair struggles to hold a curl, this step makes a huge difference.
Create your curl
My tool of choice is the Bio Ionic 1.25" Long Barrel Curling Iron. The longer barrel makes it easier to curl longer hair and creates the soft, polished waves I love.
Wrap each section around the barrel, leaving the very ends slightly softer for a more modern finish. Alternate the direction of some curls for movement, while curling the pieces around your face away from your face.
And most importantly: don’t immediately brush them out.
Let your curls cool completely before touching them. Cooling is when the hair sets into its new shape—and this is one of the biggest secrets to making your style last.
Let them cool, then soften
Once your hair is completely cool, gently separate the curls with your fingers or lightly brush through them.
Finish with Kenra Perfect Medium Spray for flexible, touchable hold that keeps your curls in place without making them feel stiff or crunchy.
You want movement—not helmet hair.
Bring the volume back
As the days go on, your curls will naturally relax into softer waves. Instead of reaching for the curling iron every morning, use Kenra Volumizing Spray Clay to refresh your style.
Mist it through the roots and throughout the hair where you want extra texture, then gently fluff with your fingers. It helps bring back volume and grip while giving day-two and day-three hair that perfectly undone texture.
Lock it all in
Once your curls are exactly where you want them, finish with Kenra Professional Volume Spray 25.
This super-hold finishing spray helps lock in your style for long-lasting hold—perfect when you want your curls to survive a full day and still look beautiful into the next. Mist lightly over the finished style, focusing on areas that tend to fall first.
The goal is to use it as your final layer of hold, after you've finished shaping and styling, so your curls stay polished, voluminous and ready to last for days.
The secret to curls that actually last
Great curls are all about prep, sectioning, heat, cooling and finishing.
Protect your hair before styling. Work in intentional sections. Give every curl time to cool. Then use lightweight products that support the style instead of weighing it down.
The result? Soft, bouncy, salon-worthy curls on day one that gradually turn into beautiful, lived-in waves over the next few days—meaning less heat styling and more really good hair days.
